Gas geyser installation in Johannesburg & the West Rand
Gas geyser installation means mounting a gas water heater, usually on an outside wall. Gas Wizards connect it to your cylinders with a regulated copper gas line and connect the hot and cold water. The flue is fitted, the gas side is leak- and pressure-tested, and the certificate of compliance is issued. Most installs across Johannesburg and the West Rand take one visit.

Instantaneous vs storage
Almost every gas geyser we fit is an instantaneous (tankless) unit: it lights when you open a hot tap and heats the water as it passes through. No tank to keep hot, so no standing losses — and it keeps working through load-shedding if the igniter is battery-powered.
Storage-type gas geysers exist but are rare in homes here; if you want one, we'll talk through where it can go before you buy.
Choosing the size
Gas geysers are sized by litres per minute, not by tank volume. The question is how many hot taps run at once:

Where it goes
An instantaneous gas geyser is normally mounted outside, on a wall close to the bathroom it feeds, with the flue venting to open air. An indoor unit needs a flue rated for the appliance and ventilation, and not every room qualifies. The cylinders stand outside too, away from drains, openings and ignition sources, as SANS 10087-1 sets out — we site both on the first visit.
Converting from an electric geyser
Most jobs are conversions. The usual pattern: the gas unit goes on the outside wall, the hot line is re-routed from it, and the electric geyser is either removed or left in place as a backup — that's your call. Water pressure matters: low-pressure homes need the unit chosen for a low start-up flow.
What drives the price
- The unit itself (you can buy it, or ask us to spec one)
- Length of the gas line from the cylinders to the geyser
- How much water pipework has to be re-routed
- Whether cylinders, regulator and a cage are already in place
We quote a fixed price once we've seen the wall — photos on WhatsApp are usually enough.

Every gas geyser we install is leak- and pressure-tested, then gets its gas certificate of compliance from an SAQCC Gas-registered installer. Keep it — you'll need it when you sell.

Questions about gas geyser installation
How long does a gas geyser installation take?
A straightforward outside-wall installation with cylinders already in place is usually done in a day. Long gas or water runs add time.
Can a gas geyser go inside the house?
Yes, but only a unit designed for indoor use, with a flue to outside and enough ventilation. Most homes put it outside, which avoids an indoor flue.
Will it work during load-shedding?
Yes, if its igniter runs on batteries — most do. Fan-assisted models need mains power, so check before you buy.
Do I need a certificate of compliance for a gas geyser?
Yes. Any gas installation must be certified by an SAQCC Gas-registered installer, and you'll need the certificate when you sell.
